Delaware to DC

17Oct09

We’re packing up on this drizzly (okay, now it’s raining), cool Saturday morning with a destination of the C+O Canal Path.   Before we head out we want to share what we’ve been up to since we left Lewes, Delaware.

We gave a fond farewell to Joanna, Ian, baby Griffin, and Gillian on a sunny Sunday morning.  We proceeded to ride across the great state of Delaware with the help of the best bicycle maps ever!  We requested bicycle maps from the states we knew we’d ride through and Delaware’s were the most concise and clear.  Perhaps its because there’s only three counties?  We rode through miles of soybean and corn fields.  We also passed many chicken farms-Perdue seems to be rather prolific in the area.  We camped in Tuckahoe State Park.  We get excited these days when we have a  picnic table in our campsite.

We left Tuckahoe early Monday morning, Columbus Day, and headed toward the Bay Bridge, which bicycles are not allowed on.  Luckily, we had a rendezvous set with Bryan’s cousin Chris and her husband Bill.  We had a nice ride on the Cross Island Bike Path that we picked up a few miles before the bridge. Chris and Bill picked us up at the Kent Public Library and we had a lovely dinner on the bay with a beautiful sunset in the background.

We spent the last week in Silver Spring, MD with Chris, Bill and their daughter Jane.  We’ve taken the metro into downtown DC numerous times to sight-see and explore.  We’ll share our thoughts and photos about our DC experience in the next post.

Lots of love, we miss all of our family and friends!

You guys are doing great. Its been a pleasure following along. Could you please post your total miles to date (for those of us who are envious). Jack Frost came early to Jersey. You two got out just in time.

      Hi Frank,

We will work on posting our mileage. Just yesterday we broke 1,000 miles. I also just bought four more pair of brake pads!
