South Western Virginia-New River Trail

Our ride on the New River Trail was rather quiet. It was great to be off the roads during the rainy weather.  We crossed over lots of bridges and stayed pretty dry with our rain gear.  Now we have  a week of sunshine ahead for our ride to Asheville, NC.

We spent Halloween on the trail and it was rather gloomy out there…

Well, we are about to leave Galax, VA and head due west toward Damascus, VA an old AT hiker town that is at the bottom of the Virginia Creeper Trail. We will ride about 17 miles on an abandoned mining and logging railroad grade. The railroad was the Norfolk and Western.

Not too much to share, but here’s a few more photos:

Next stop, Asheville NC.  See you then!

  1. Nice fall scenery… must have been pretty along the river. At least you are headed south and hopefully wont need that blanket for too long!

Just glorious photos…. Looks like you were in Icabod Crane country for halloween (holy evening) and needed to draw deeply from your springs of togetherness and trust!
    Love, Peggy

      Thanks Peggy.

We are amassing a lot of photos of deep woods in all kinds of weather. Some of it is pretty creepy.

You guys are taking great photos! Have you seen any ghost trains yet? Was that a railroad building?

We do have some railroad photos. Not many yet – but we will get them organized soon! Most of the trains we hear are running at night.

Thanks! No Dips as it was in the 40’s and raining a couple of those nights and it just did’t make it on the days agenda. Fun trail and amazing looking river.
