Rainy Sunday Quotation

Bryan and I are packing today after having spent a restful 2 weeks in Asheville, North Carolina.  We’re excited to pedal and continue south.  We are getting dropped off in Tennessee by our friends Keri and Ira.   This will give us a headstart a little bit farther away from the mountains, although we still have a little bit more of the Cumberland Plateau to contend with.

Recently, I finished reading Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins.  A short passage from the book resonated with me and I found myself reading it over and over again.

“Our individuality is all, all, that we have.  There are those who barter it for security, those who repress it for what they believe is the betterment of the whole society, but blessed in the twinkle of the morning star is the one who nurtures it and rides it, in grace and love and wit, from peculiar station to peculiar station along life’s bittersweet route.”

Peculiar station to peculiar station.  I love it.  Oh, and that bittersweet route; we’ll blog a bit more about Asheville and then we’ll be posting about our travels in Tennessee  later this week.

Just got caught back up with your travels. Wow you guys are amazing. Your quote here is only too appropriate, and it inspires me a bit too. Try to live life like this always, and hope to pass it on to my babe. It is easy to get caught up in the sweep of things, and this adventure you two are on will be one that you cherish for the rest of your lives. Peculiar station to peculiar station! live it! love it!
thinking of you and hoping you have more fall colors and rainless days. xoxo

    Debi and Bryan,

    Greetings from the Jersey Shore.
Its good to see you are up and spinning again. A couple of years back I was driving through those mountains while visiting a relative. Beautiful mountains from in a car, not on a fully loaded bicycle. It was a good call to bypass as much of them as you could.
Its been cold and damp the past couple of weeks in my little “Mayberry” by the library.

    Keep ahead of the frost.
